    History: The Bonnie Wiki Page

    Personality:
In a lot of ways, Bonnie is just an ordinary girl. She's bubbly, bright and social. She loves fashion, dancing and karaoke. Once upon a time she was a cheerleader, and even with all the craziness in her life, she tries to be involved in her community as much as possible. She strives for that normalcy, even though her life is far from normal.

Of course, her problem is she's a witch, the only witch in a town full of supernatural threats. Though she's come to accept and value her power as a means of protecting herself and others she loves, having such a massive responsibility resting on her shoulders weighs on her. She's the one her friends look to for help and she wants to come through for them, even if she gets nothing in return. It's not as satisfying as it should be, especially not when the threats seem to get bigger and more difficult to deal with. It's draining and it wears her down, but she keeps going because she has to. She doesn't want anyone to get hurt.

And so, that bubbly girl fades into the background and is replaced by the Bennett witch. She hides her vulnerabilities behind snark and a brave face, more likely to lash out in anger at the nearest arrogant and glib vampire than she is to deal directly with her pain or guilt. She wants to be seen as strong and fierce, even when she's not. She doesn't feel she has the luxury to be anything else, not when she's surrounded by people hundreds of years older than her who can and often will use any vulnerability she shows against her. There are very few people she trusts enough with the fragile side of her, even among her friends.

Even so, she wants someone to see past the wall she's built around herself and appreciate her as she is, for everything she is. In her mind, she knows her friends care, but they seem less and less able to see that wall for what it is. She's on one side, they're on the other, and even though she always fights for them, they keep slipping away. Sometimes it feels as if they care little more than the people they fight against.

In a lot of ways, all Bonnie wants is someone who will be as loyal to her as she is to them - and that is her defining trait. Her loyalty to her friends and her heritage is part of what keeps her going. The thing is, people have a habit of leaving her through one means or another. Her mother left when she was three to escape witchcraft, and her father buried himself in work when Bonnie began to take her practice seriously. Most of the guys she's been interested in have either died or betrayed her, her only boyfriend cheating on her with a ghost. Every time she lets down her guard, someone hurts her, which is even more reason to keep it up.

Of all the people in her life, the one person who seems to be able to look past that wall is someone she'd rather not: Damon Salvatore. Damon is a vampire. Vampires are the reason her life is the mess it is, and if they weren't part of her life, she wouldn't need to protect herself or anyone else so diligently. She's aware that vampires are more than their instincts - Caroline has proven that much to her - but she isn't going to ignore the fact that those instincts exists. Vampires are dangerous and she can never forget that. The moment she forgets is the moment she puts everyone at risk and she can't do that.

    Powers/Abilities:

Bonnie is a witch, meaning she can perform magic. This magic is based in nature. They're connected to nature - they can feel the earth and the life that comes from it, and in the case of vampires, the lack of such life. The strength of this ability seems to vary from witch to witch, as all their abilities do, but it seems that as is also the case with vampires and werewolves, these abilities become strong as time passes. They can also sense each other.

Witches can not only feel nature, they are empowered by it. A witch can draw power from any part of nature to fuel their spells, from herbs to elements to celestial events such as a full moon or a passing comet. By adding that power to their own, they can then manipulate nature in various different ways, though if they disrespect it, the spirits can turn on them. Such dark magic often has grave consequences.

Witches have a sort of sixth sense, though the specifics are vague. Sometimes it's an image, sometimes a feeling - sometimes it requires touch, sometimes not. It’s not clear if all witches are precognitive, but Bonnie has dreams and visions of this nature. Most of the time they just come to her, but she can sometimes do it on command. As she once told Damon, she gets what she gets.

Most witches have been shown to have the power of telekinesis, but Bonnie doesn't use it much, so it's hard to gauge how strong this ability for her. She tends to favor the element of fire as a weapon, as well as a spell that causes a brain aneurysm in her victim.

All this may make magic seem limitless, but it isn't. As mentioned before, the spirits will work against spells that throw off the balance of nature. Emotions can impact a witch's abilities both positively and negatively, either fueling them or blocking them. Excessive use of magic can lead to nose bleeds, blackouts and even death. Dark magic can throw off the balance of the one using it, chipping away at their sanity and sometimes spiting their consciousness into two separate identities. The darkest magic, Expression, involves the channeling of human sacrifices, and while very powerful, is also very dangerous and out of control. Expression users not only leave a path of death and destruction, but often they destroy themselves in their quest for power.

How has your character changed from their canon self?

Becoming a werewolf changed a lot for Bonnie. Her view on werewolves is similar to that of vampires, because while they're less predatory, they are still prone to rage and aggression and the violence that follows. Becoming one brought on mountains of identity issues, and the heightened emotion and aforementioned aggression didn't help. She didn't just lose herself, she lost control of herself, and often. She pulled away from most of her childhood friends, not sure what they'd think of the new her, whoever that was. She wanted to find out, and she didn't want to worry about living up to anyone's expectations while she was doing it.

As she took time off school and work to work out how to control herself again, she found she understood a lot more about her supernatural friends, and even some who weren't her friends. Being supernatural in this way was always something she understood, but experiencing it took that understanding to a new level. She isn't half as judgmental as she used to be, and even when she is, she thinks it through a lot more carefully than she did before. She's even come to think of Stefan Salvatore as family.

Eventually she completely embraced the wolf as who she is. She actually loves it. She feels so much more comfortable in that identity than she does her witchly one, and I can see that being even more prominent in Teleios. Without her connection to the earth, there will be no reason to hold onto it, and even more reason to more thoroughly embrace her werewolf instincts - which could be either a very good thing, or a very bad thing, depending on the circumstances.

She's also learned that trust is something she has to give to at least one person in her life, even if giving it is utterly terrifying and potentially painful. She can't hide from everyone or bottle everything. She needs someone to talk to and rest with. The wall can't be up all the time.

Basically, she's learned how to make herself a priority. She's still as loyal to the people she loves and will do what she can to protect them, but it's no longer to the complete detriment of herself. She'll take risks, but only to a certain point. If she's not strong enough or too worn down, she'll say so. She's not going to bend to every request anymore, and she's not going to change for anyone.

And in the discovery of discoveries, she found out she's attracted to girls as well as guys. Surprise?

Are they gaining any abilities from their time in game? Did the game setting take something from them?

When entering her previous game, Bonnie became that world's version of a werewolf. For the most part, these wolves are like the shapeshifters, having two animal forms, one being the wolf, of course. (Bonnie's other form is the ʻIʻiwi, a small red bird with black wings and a species of Hawaiian honeycreeper.) While in animal form, the instincts of the animal can creep in, sometimes overriding her human instincts. Shifting is painful - though less the more it happens - and it's often triggered by a certain emotion, though Bonnie has worked to gain some control over it. She can more easily shift back into human form after she's changed, but she's not as accomplished at preventing it.

There are, of course, things that separate the werewolves from the shapeshifters, the most prominent being the forced shift during the full moon. She's forced into her wolf form until morning, and during that time has little to no control over herself. If she does not chain herself up during that time, she will kill and hurt and create a path of destruction.

As a werewolf, she's stronger and faster than most, even in human form. Her emotions are more intense, which for her comes through the most in terms of aggression and loyalty. Most wolves operate on pack terms, and given her strong sense of loyalty before, Bonnie is definitely not an exception.
